Construction Projects in the Pipeline for 2008-2015
 
Construction of Flyovers:
Construction of flyovers at strategically selected junctions is considered to be a means to reduce the traffic congestion.17  flyovers will be constructed in Colombo City and its suburbs
 
Construction of Bridges:
Under this project the reconstruction of 222 bridges on National Highways, and Provincial and Rural roads will be undertaken  ins Hambantota,Matara,Galle,Badulla,Gampaha,Kalutara,Anuradpura,Kandy,Nuwara Eliya,Matale,Puttalam,Kuruegala,Ampara  and Batticaloa Districts.
 
Jana Sevana Housing Programme:
This programme aims to construct 25 houses in each village at the rate of 15,000 housing units per year during 2006-20123.
 
Post –Tsunami Housing Reconstruction Programme:
The objective of this programme is to provide better and decent shelter to the families whose houses were lost or damaged  by the Tsunami. The programme is expected to reconstruct or repair around 114,000 houses in the Tsunami affected coastal  belt.
 
Housing for Displaced Families:
The objective of this programme is to provide permanent shelter for IDPs living in welfare camps in the Puttalam district.
 
50,000 Houses for Estate Workers:
The objective of this programme is to provide decent housing facilities with required basic infrastructure to the estate workers  families with a view to uplifting their living conditions.
 
Townships for Service Personnel:
Construction of 1,700 housing units. This project is located at Ipalogama in the Anuradhapura District.
 
Housing for Urban Under-Served Families:
This project is expected to provide housing facilities on concessionary terms for about 2,700 families living in under – served  settlements in Colombo and suburbs.
